STAN LEVEY - THE ORIGINAL ORIGINAL

Stan Levey is one of the great names from the golden era of swing and bebop drumming, playing on over 1400 recordings with people like Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee and Frank Sinatra. Stan was a long-time Ludwig endorser but he was given some Asba drums by French drummer Daniel Humair. Stan's son Bob got in touch with these pictures:

Born in Philidelphia in 1925 Stan grew up facing a choice between drumming and boxing.... the drums won! His musical career was long and glittering, playing on over 300 films, 3000 TV shows as well as the stellar recordings and concerts, some of which are mentioned above.

His Asba drums were presented to him by Danial Humair and consist of an 18 x 10 bass drum and a piccolo snare that sits inside. Bob is now looking around for some toms and hardware to complete the kit.
